Heat Transfer Paper for Inkjet Printers Buyer’s Guide

Considering that Inkjet printers are the most common and preferred option when it comes to heat transfer craftwork, you won’t have any problems finding plenty of options to choose from. This list that we have compiled, consists of the best of the best, with options for both light and dark fabrics.

Our buyer’s guide is here to help you make the best choice for all of your crafting needs. Below are a few important factors to keep in mind when making your purchase.

Will this transfer paper work in my inkjet printer?

There are a lot of inkjet printers out there, from old models to new. If you already have an inkjet printer, we recommend purchasing a set of transfer papers and trying a few practise runs. If your existing printer doesn’t seem to work, you will have to consider investing in a newer model.

Print setting

Most inkjet printers will print onto transfer paper using standard settings. If you’re experiencing problems, try toggling through various settings until you find one that works. Try to avoid using the best image settings, as they are likely to use more ink, causing the colors to run.

Ink selection

Pigment inks will produce the best results as they hold up the best in the washing machine. Most printers use dye-based inks but some newer inkjet printers come standard with Pigment inks.

Note—let the freshly printed image rest for up to 20 minutes to avoid running or smudging.

Fabric colors

Make sure to read the specs and instructions carefully before purchasing your transfer papers. If you’re planning on pressing onto light-color materials, make sure to buy the transfer paper that is made for light-color material; the same goes for dark materials. Failing to do so will result in an unusable product and wasted time and money.
